The driver of the world's fastest car, Wing Commander Andy Green, crashed the Jaguar XJR he was driving at speed up the hillclimb course at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Green is more commonly associated with the land speed record cars Thrust SSC and the new Bloodhound SSC which will be making an attempt to break the current record of 763mph (set in Thrust SSC in 1997) in South Africa in 2016.
The Jaguar XJR Green was driving at Goodwood was a specialised support vehicle including a range of safety modifications, designed to come to the aid of Bloodhound SSC in the event of any problem.
The £92,000 car was being driven up the hillclimb course to demonstrate its performance. Green misjudged the entry to the Molecomb left-hand corner, running over some grass and then continuing into the straw bale barrier on the outside.
Thankfully nobody was injured in the accident, but the car suffered quite heavy front end damage and a TV camera located on the corner was broken.
The corner has proven difficult for other drivers, with Olympic cycling star Sir Chris Hoy crashing a Nissan GT-R on the very same corner in 2014.
We wish Andy the very best of luck with his world record attempt next year.
