Your parents or grandparents may have had an Austin Maestro in the Eighties or Nineties, some may even have one which still runs, but you wouldn't expect any still around to be worth much money.
Which is why it's quite a surprise that a 30 year old example of the 'ordinary' hatchback has recently been put up for sale on auction website eBay for well over £7K - over four times the market value according to most price guides, even taking into consideration the car's very low 102 miles since new.
The value is down to a combination of the car's exceptional 'as new' condition, due to being stored in a garage unused for 30 years, and the way that prices for even quite 'everyday' classic cars has noticeably risen in the last few years.
The car, a 1.3 HLE model in Cashmere Gold, still has the carpet protectors on the floor and the original dealer stickers.
The Maestro's original keeper was a Mrs Gee, from the Heygate Estate in south-east London, which has since been demolished.
The car was discovered in a garage and acquired by one of the builders involved in the demolition, before being auctioned off initially in September 2014 for £3,260.
The new price represents a 138% price increase in less than two years.
